The ruling president of Zambia, Edgar Lungu was present at Swaziland’s annual Umhlanga or Reed Dance ceremony held on Monday. The president was a special guest invited by the King of Swaziland, King Mswati III.
About 40,000 maidens took part in the 2021 edition of the traditional chastity rite. They sang and danced to climax the 7-days event.
The Zambian president was adorned in the traditional Swaziland outfit and stood by his host, King Mswati and his kingsmen while the people took turns in the Kudlalisela procession – a tradition where people danced around to show appreciation to the beautiful maidens.
