Having won the African cup of nations an unprecedented 7 times, the North African country is usually deemed as the most successful football nation on the continent.
Currently, Egypt ranks number 5 on the CAF football nations ranking and number 46 on the FIFA global football rankings. After dropping out of the 2019 AFCON at the knock-out stage, Egypt has not been able to win any major competitions. Nigeria is not a new name in the Footballing world. They are known to have produced some of the greatest African footballers of all time. Just like their name, the Super Eagles of Nigeria have always kept a high profile on both the African and International football scenes.
The three-time African champions are the third-best African football nation in 2021.
With total points of 1487.16, Nigeria places at number 32 globally. Their highest football ranking came in April 1994 where they placed 5 globally.
On the global football stage, Nigeria has played in 5 FIFA world cup competitions, but also unable to cross the round of 16 in any of those appearances.

Their highest ever ranking came in February 2021, where they placed number 20 globally.
The Lions of Teranga were the runners-up of the recently held African Cup of Nations.
Sadly, they have never won the African Cup of Nations, despite having produced several football stars. On their first-ever attempt at the FIFA world cup in 2002, Senegal finished in the Quarter Finals. This has only been achieved by Ghana and Cameroon.
Truly, Senegal deserves their spot as the number 1 African football nation in 2021. They have produced many global stars including El Hadji Diouf, Sadio Mane, Idrissa Gueye and Cheikou Kouyate.
Even though no African country has endeavoured to win the FIFA world cup yet, most of them have built great teams, deserving of praise and have also produced individual stars who have gone on to shine globally.
